Sadly, the HD re-release of the HOMM3 lacks both of the popular expansions, leaving the players to enjoy only the core campaigns of the original game. While this remaster manages to drastically improve the visuals present in the game with high-definition backgrounds and character 2D sprites, it did not satisfy the needs of gamers who wanted to experience the entirety of the old game in the improved visual package. After its successful release on PC, the game was ported to several other platforms and received two expansion packs called Armageddon's Blade and The Shadow of Death. To this day, Heroes of Might and Magic 3 represents one of the best remembered and most played titles from the 2D era of PC gaming and is regarded by many as a pinnacle of tactical 2D RPG games on PC. While the gameplay structure did not strive far away from its predecessors (managing the construction of the large cities who are crucial for the development of new offensive and defensive units, exploring a large overworld map filled with treasures and challenges, and a dedicated hex-based tactical battle screen where troop actions are performed in turns), Heroes of Might and Magic 3 managed to find universal acclaim due to its fun and balanced ruleset, pleasing visuals, enjoyable music, a large variety of races (all with their unique units and tactics) and multiplayer support. Featuring seven single-player campaigns based on the characters and events of the popular Might and Magic franchise, this game quickly became one of the defining games of this franchise. Heroes of Might and Magic 3 HD Edition is a restoration of the popular 2D turn-based strategy game and cult hit HOMM3 that was originally released to the public in 1999.
